Accounting Apprenticeship

There are 2 positions available on this apprenticeship.

Keen to take your first step into a career in accounting? Then whether you’re a school leaver ready to enter the working world, a career changer, or just looking to enhance your current skills, an Accounting apprenticeship at FCO Services is a great choice. You’ll learn how to balance the books while balancing paid study, with hands-on experience doing work that really matters. Perform well and, on top of a Foundation Certificate in Accounting, you could land a permanent role as one of our Transactional Support Officers - and be looking ahead to all sorts of exciting career options.

But who are we?
You may not know FCO Services yet, but we work with government-level customers to protect the UK’s interests at home and overseas. We do that through a wide range of services, all delivered to the highest security standards, including construction, digital solutions, communications, logistics, and counter-eavesdropping.

So what will you do?
It starts with learning from our teams. Mentored by a business manager, you’ll move around a variety of specialisms, learning how to set up, send and pay invoices; how to maintain our ledger; how to administer credit cards and expenses across the organisation, and more. And as you pick up these skills, you’ll do work that matters for taxpayers everywhere, learning to provide prompt, accurate invoicing to global government bodies.

But that’s not all. We’ll also support you while you work towards a Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting from AAT (the Association of Accounting Technicians), as part of your Level 2 Accounting apprenticeship. Your studies will put your practical experience into a wider context. And when you pass your final assessments, there’s a good chance we’ll offer you a permanent position in our team.

In short, you’ll build your skills, make a difference and widen your options – all with the benefits of a career in the Civil Service. So we think it’s fair to say your world just got bigger.

What we look for
Our Accounting apprenticeship is open to people of all ages but you must:

• Be a British Citizen who’s lived in the UK for the last three years before the first day of your apprenticeship (usually September of the year you’re applying)
• Have at least two GCSEs (or equivalent e.g. O Levels, Standard Grades) in Maths and English at grades 9-5 (A*-C)
• Be genuinely interested in accounting.

If you already have a qualification at the same or a higher level, you may not be able to apply unless the apprenticeship qualification provides learning and skills that are materially different to what you’ve studied before.

It takes a diverse team to protect a diverse world.
The vital work we do takes an incredible community of colleagues, with different skills, backgrounds, cultures and identities. We support every one of them, so they always know they’re welcome and valued. It’s what makes us a Disability Confident employer, Stonewall Diversity Champions, and a member of Employers for Carers - and it’s how you know you’re joining an inspiring, inclusive organisation.

Your salary
Your starting salary will be £14,140 plus £1,750 location allowance and we offer pay progression at key milestones during the apprenticeship. If you’re offered a permanent position on completion of the apprenticeship programme, the final salary would be in the region of £20,200 plus £1,750 location allowance.

All our employees have to be security cleared before joining us, so you will need to undergo a vetting process if you’re successful in your application. This role would require you to undergo Security Check (SC) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on the apprentice ‘How to apply page’ on this site or by searching vetting.
