IT Apprenticeship

IT – every organisation needs it, and lots of us want to break into it. With our IT apprenticeship, you can – at any age (as long as you’re 16 or over), and even if you don’t have experience. Whether you’re a school leaver, a career changer, or just looking to enhance your current skills, this is your chance to become an IT champion. You’ll do work with a purpose, you’ll pick up skills to set you apart from the crowd, and you’ll study for a range of brilliant qualifications along the way.

But who exactly are we?
You may not know FCO Services yet, but we work with government-level customers to protect the UK’s interests at home and overseas. We do that through a wide range of services, all delivered to the highest security standards, including construction, digital solutions, communications, logistics, and counter-eavesdropping.

So what will you do?
Like we said – every organisation needs IT, and ours more than most. You’ll learn how to protect government-level customers against electronic and cyber-attacks. You’ll pick up the skills to help us keep customers’ data and assets safe at all times. And you’ll take pride in knowing you’re helping people across the globe, whether you’re safeguarding systems that house a nation’s passport applications, or making sure government communications stay safe and secure.

But that’s not all. We’ll also support you while you study for technical qualifications that are valued across the industry. That includes a variety of well-respected Microsoft Technology Associate qualifications, as well as Level 3 Awards in Business Processes and in Scripting, Coding and Logic, from the British Computer Society (The Chartered Institute for IT). At the end of the programme, if you successfully complete your qualifications, you could well land a permanent position on our team.

In short, you’ll build your skills, make a difference and widen your options – all with the benefits of a career in the Civil Service. So we think it’s fair to say your world just got bigger.

What we look for
Our IT apprenticeship is open to everyone, but you must:

• Be a British Citizen who’s lived in the UK for the last three years before the first day of your apprenticeship (usually September of the year you apply), and for at least five of the last 10 years
• Have at least five GCSEs (or equivalent e.g. O Levels) at grades 9-5 (A*-C) including Maths, English and, ideally, Computing or a related subject
• Show us you're genuinely interested in computing and IT.

If you already have a qualification at the same or a higher level, you may not be able to apply unless the apprenticeship qualification provides learning and skills that are materially different to what you’ve studied before.

It takes a diverse team to protect a diverse world.
The vital work we do takes an incredible community of colleagues, with different skills, backgrounds, cultures and identities. We support every one of them, so they always know they’re welcome and valued. It’s what makes us a Disability Confident employer, Stonewall Diversity Champions, and a member of Employers for Carers - and it’s how you know you’re joining an inspiring, inclusive organisation.

Your salary
Your starting salary will be £17,024 plus £1,750 location allowance and we offer pay progression at key milestones during the apprenticeship. If you’re offered a permanent position on completion of the apprenticeship programme, the final salary would be in the region of £24,320 plus £1,750 location allowance.

Vetting
All our employees have to be security cleared before joining us, so you will need to undergo a vetting process if you’re successful in your application. This role would require you to undergo Security Check (SC) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on the apprentice ‘How to apply page’ on this site or by searching Gov.uk vetting.
